Background:
- Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) was established by the Government of Tami Nadu during early eighties to produce Newsprint and Printing & Writing Paper using bagasse, a sugarcane residue, as primary raw material in Kagithapuram, Karur District, Tamil Nadu. Now the company is a listed company after the Public Issue in 1995.
- The Company commenced production in the year 1984 with a initial capacity of 90,000 tonnes per annum (tpa). Over the years, the production capacity has been increased to 2,45,000 tpa and the Company has emerged as the largest bagasse based Paper Mill in the world consuming about one million tonnes of bagasse every year. The Company completed a Mill Expansion Plan during 2010 to increase the mill capacity to 4,00,000 tpa.
- TNPL uses state of the art technology to manufacture paper from bagasse, the sugar cane residue as the primary raw material.
- Every phase of growth is ingrained with the latest technology and installation of state of the art machineries. The company adopts environment friendly Elemental Chlorine free bleaching technology with state of the art effluent treatment plant with Bio-Methanation Plants.
- Also the company has installed 600 tonnes per day cement plant as a part of waste management using the internally generated Limesludge and Flyash. The company is in the process of upgrading the production capacity to 900 tonnes per day.
- The company is setting up a multilayer paper board manufacturing plant for Rs 1,650 crore with a Production capacity of 2,00,000 tonnes per annum located at Mondipatti, Manapparai, Trichy District of Tamil Nadu
Products:
- TNPL manufactures Printing and Writing Papers ranging from 50 GSM to 110 GSM and the paper have uniform profile with strength properties to cope with customer needs.
- The products are being marketed throughout the country and also being exported to 50 countries around the world.
- TNPL caters to the requirements of multifunctional printing processes like sheet-fed, web offset, and digital printers.
Performance :
- TNPL is achieving maximum capacity utilsation producing 373259 Mts during 2014-15
- TNPL continues to be market leader among the peers in terms of productivity, profitability and Return on Investments etc with innovative cost management measures and with a vision towards sustainability.
- TNPL achieved 166.73 Crores Profit after tax during the year 2014-15 and is a consistent profit making company for a long time.
