Dr Chandrashekar Hariharan is an economist who turned to business in the mid-1980s. He has presided over projects on water, energy and green buildings for over 30 years. He is co-chair of the Indian Green Building Council, Bangalore chapter, and chairperson of Biodiversity Conservation India, known for ‘zero energy development’ homes). The company is currently doing 1 million sft of signature homes that are 'grid-free' with least dependence on external grid for energy and water. He is a key player at the IGBC's national initiative to expand India’s green footprint. He is on the Board of Governors of ATREE, one of the world’s top 20 Environment 'think tanks'. He has served as Advisory for the Karnataka Urban Water Supply Development Board on a plan for sustainable water management for 27 towns in Karnataka. He is also on the board of 3 other ‘green companies’. He's also leading an EcoPro programme for greening MBAs and Engineers to mentor with short semester courses on solutioning sustainability under a not-for-profit initiative. In another very important initiative for Bangalore, he is part of a group that has set out a Mission for reviving the river Dakshina Pinakini, and her watershed around Nandi Hllls in Chickaballapur District.
