Biotechnologist by education, Kamal Raj leads the Green Initiatives’ division of Solid waste management at Infosys Ltd. He is a member of International Solid Waste Management Association (ISWA) and a founding member of Young Professionals Group (YPG) India, he is also co-founder of Reap Benefit- an organisation that works in urban sanitation in India.
He specialises in organic waste management, decentralized facilities and waste management strategy. He is constantly engaged in international collaborations with universities like MIT and ISAH. He is credited to have achieved self-reliance in SWM at Infosys, where annually 3.2 million kgs of organic waste treated in-house to generate biogas and compost. Currently, focused on integrated SWM facility that can co-generate energy along with asset recovery and creating an ecosystem of transportation based on Bio-CNG generated from MSW. His other projects and research include pyrolysis, plasma gasification, waste characterization, lamp recycling and automated sludge treatment systems.
