Born in 1950, NiranjanHiranandani is the Managing Director and founder of the Hiranandani Group of Companies and is better known as the Real Estate Czar: what he has achieved is nothing short of a miracle. Displaying extraordinary qualities as a builder, as also a perfectionist in terms of quality, brilliance, and untiring zest for excellence, he has lead the Group Companies in changing the skyline of Mumbai, Thane – with Panvel, Pune, Chennai and Ahmedabad set to follow.
With his profound knowledge in business and his industrious attitude, he has led the Group Companies to scale new heights, to the extent that today the Group is considered as a developer of best quality housing and commercial premises in the country. Apart from construction, the group has diversified into education, horticulture, hospitality, entertainment, and retail.
NiranjanHiranandani completed his schooling from Campion School, Mumbai and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Hons.) with a distinction of standing Second from Mumbai University. He added to his professional qualification, by doing F.C.A. from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
He started his career in textiles with a weaving unit at Charkop in suburban Mumbai’s Kandivali, and later on forayed into real estate business. It was just in time: he soon received a notice from the textiles union, demanding doubling of wages. Anticipating huge losses, NiranjanHiranandani opted to shut down the textiles unit. Then, it was real estate – and destiny.
Speaking about the initial days, NiranjanHiranandani says, "It was a time when real estate was not considered as a ‘clean’ industry to be in, and people associated with it were perceived to be corrupt, so it was really a big risk to venture in this sector. We didn't lose hope and worked hard and with our consistent efforts, we get first spark of recognition in the construction line with our work in Versova, Andheri in the mid-eighties. Another big break came when we got an opportunity to develop a large township at Powai with modern Infrastructure as well as top-of-the-line commercial, residential, and educational facilities. Since then, the Hiranandani Group has come a long way and is recognized nation-wide for modern and state-of-the-art mixed-use township projects."
The transformation of a barren land in Powai from a lonely hillside quarry with about 20 trees to one that is bustling with activity, with over 200 acres of greenery, as well as top-of-the-line commercial, residential, recreational and educational facilities is something Mumbai cherishes.
Since then, the Hiranandani Group has come a long way to be recognized countrywide for their modern and state-of-the-art mix-user township projects in Powai and Thane, both of which have become preferred residential and commercial locations in and around Mumbai. He is referred to as ‘Builder Extraordinaire’, as also the Man responsible for changing the skyline of Mumbai.
NiranjanHiranandani, the son of a Padmabhushan honored ENT specialist the Late Dr. L H Hiranandani, is married and has two children - a son and a daughter. He loves to spend his leisure time with his family either by going on long trip or attending social parties together.
NiranjanHiranandani has been the President at the Maharashtra Chambers of Housing Industry, currently Chairman for Real Estate & Infrastructure Committee of Indian Merchants Chambers (I.M.C.) Mumbai often known as past president of IMC; Member of the Task Force of the Government of India for reforms in Housing and Urban Development; and Member of the Study Group on Slum Rehabilitation Scheme, Government of Maharashtra.
