Kamal Bali, 56, joined the Volvo Group in India as a Board Member and
Managing Director in April 2014. Volvo India Private Limited (VIPL) is fully
owned by AB Volvo Group of Sweden, has manufacturing facilities in Bangalore
and is all set to further strengthen its presence in India with its new state-ofthe-
art offerings of VOLVO Trucks, Buses, Construction Equipment and
Industrial Engines. The Volvo Group also has a joint venture in India with the
Eicher Group, in the name and style of VE Commercial Vehicles, for EICHER
branded trucks and buses.
With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, predominantly in the
automotive industry, Kamal has worked for well-known Indian brands and
established multinational corporations in India. He has had an insightful
experience in the functional areas of sales, marketing, finance, human
resources, and exercised significant P&L responsibilities.
An engineering graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and an
alumnus of St. Joseph's Academy Dehradun, Kamal began his professional
career with the Eicher Group in 1981. Later, he headed the National Sales
function for Escorts' Tractors & Claas Harvestors, followed by the position of
CEO & Managing Director for Same Deutz -Fahr Group Italia in India, and
Escorts Construction Equipment. Prior to spearheading the Volvo Group in
India, Kamal was working as the President & CEO of Singapore Technologies
Kinetics in Bangalore, establishing brand LeeBoy in India.
Kamal is respected and known for his values' based leadership and strong
ethos, with a framework for an effective alignment of People, Strategy and
Operations' processes. He is credited with an exceptional clarity of thought,
able to think through the clutter, strategise the journey, and deploy action
plans in pursuit of organisation Goals.
Kamal is active in industry bodies and panels, is a speaker on various
important forums. Based in Bangalore, he is married to Gina, who is Masters
in English Literature and has two children – a son who is a Commercial Pilot
and a daughter who is pursuing her Master's program in education, in
Singapore.
