Sumit joined the India operations of Groupe Renault in September 2012 as Executive Director Sales and Marketing. In 2014, he was appointed as Country CEO and Managing Director for Renault India Operations. His key responsibility is to lead the group operations and activities of upstream and offshore entities in the Country, as well as make functional decisions and achieve the growth plans outlined for India, which plays a significant role in the expansion strategy of Groupe Renault.
Sumit comes with extensive experience in the automotive industry spanning more than 22 years, and has worked across various roles in sales, marketing, after-sales, business and network development. He has significant exposure to various automotive markets across the globe and has actively contributed to global marketing strategies.
Sumit is also a member of the most coveted manufacturing council of CII and is also on the Executive Committee of SIAM. He was recently adjudged as the 'Automotive Man of the Year' in India by prestigious media groups including NDTV and Zee.
Prior to joining Groupe Renault, Sumit was part of a major transition at a US automotive company, which saw its sales surge significantly in India. He has worked extensively with teams in South Asian countries, and has also been responsible for commercial operation activities, field operations, brand management as well as investor and partner affairs.
Sumit has been instrumental in establishing the Renault brand in India and setting the company on a growth trajectory. Sumit joined Renault when the automotive industry was going through a down turn, and he inspired and motivated the team to establish Renault as the number 1 European car brand in India. In October 2016, Renault ranked number 6 in India's automobile industry and posted a growth of 211% from January to October 2016 as compared to corresponding period last year.
Under his leadership, the brand has consistently set new benchmarks in the Indian automotive industry. These include the most recent launch of Renault's global car for conquest – Renault KWID, which has garnered more than 1 lakh bookings, Renault Duster's position as one of the top selling SUVs in the country, and establishing Renault India as a well-respected brand among customers and industry experts alike.
He is leading Renault's most aggressive expansion plan in India, and has recently been adjudged the 'Automotive Man of the Year' by prestigious media groups including NDTV and Zee.
Along with his responsibility of leading the operations of Groupe Renault in India, he is also part of the Board of Directors Committee & Region Management Committee of the Africa-Middle East-India (AMI) region of Groupe Renault.
Other than his passion for automobiles, Sumit is actively involved with humanitarian projects, and he also keenly pursues his interest for aviation in his personal time.
